I decided to take a crack at this today and, of course, the featured article is about a Johnny Depp character: Captain Jack Sparrow. The "of course" is necessary because Johnny Depp has been and probably is still one of my favorite actors. No, not irony. Just coincidence.
Anyway, the article is actually rather long and certainly goes into a lot of detail considering it's written about a fictional Disney character. I'll bet there are more important subjects on Wikipedia that have far shorter articles. For example, Transporter reversal, a scientific process during which a neurotransmitter is carried to an extracellular space so that it can bind to postsynaptic receptors. Many medications that act as mood stabilizers use this to act on serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.
See? More important.
But, alas, we must list out all the synopses of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and document the literary achievements of the character including his moral ambiguity and his role as a foil to the movie's villain. Seems like a lot of work.
Ok, ok. Overall, I'd say the character is a fun one and Johnny Depp pulls it off and pulls it off well. He brought the rockstar to the pirate, something that definitely helps modernize pirates, making them "cool" again. (Note: The article mentions that Depp based the character on Keith Richards.). He was, by far, the most enjoyable character in the trilogy and is actually one of the few reasons to even watch all three movies.
And, with that, I give Johnny Depp a big high five and perhaps a figurative hug for his awesomeosity and a big BOO to the people who spent so much damn time on the article in the first place.
